Mad Maxians,
Everyone of YOU know how much I'm truly hungry about FURY ROAD. Everyone of us is hungry, actually. We are passionate about the MAD MAX subject, and a fourth chapter is a sort of LOST ARK... we're ready to kill in order to see this ultimate, definitive MAD MAX movie.
But I have a lot of perplexities concerning Max... the "Max" we'll see in FURY ROAD. I Had to expose them, in order to clean up my conscience.
1- MAD MAX sew our hero crushed by events. The trauma he lived and experienced DESTROYED him like human persona and Policeman. Max stopped to be a good guy and became... a burned out, desolate AVENGER. The action scenes were "blank", dried up, picturing one man's hell. After the revenge there is no room for anything. Max is nothing more than a body...a inertia-driven body.
2- THE ROAD WARRIOR sew our hero crushed by events again. The second trauma he lived (Interceptor's destruction - way to redemption) DESTROYED him like driver. Yeah, he played a major role in the final chase scene, but development says Max is no longer a mobile marauder, a "driver" in the murderous meaning of the word. In reflextion to this, the action scenes were more brutal,"negative", almost catartic.
He's now a "pedestrian"... he has to become indipendent by machines and "open" to social dealing, in a world where fuel is dyin' day by day. INDEED, after RW, he became a mix-up between a fighter, a trickster and a resourceful nomad.
3- BEYOND THUNDERDOME sew our hero crushed by events again. The third trauma he lived (GULAG - oldness - sacrifice in order to save his fellas) DESTROYED him like fighter. The Underworld pig battle, the chase scene and the final sacrifice showed an older Max, a "weaker" Max... EVEN ev'ry other character, like AUNTY or IRONBAR, was probably "softer" than what they would have been during the RW time. In reflextion to this, the action scenes were more poignant, positive.
Life goes on, and our hero was no longer what he used to be. He came back to humanity in a "proper" manner; he came to full circle.
And NOW? Don't you feel a "FOURTH" Max is a gratuitous point of view? A blank one too? After all, THUNDERDOME showed an "older" Max, and a "fighter" Max. It gave us what we didn't see of him in the previous TWO movies. I'm scared FURY ROAD has no MORE to say about the character we all love.
Are we gonna see a rehash of the previous THREE MOVIES, with NO RESPECT for those who loved the TRILOGY DEVELOPMENT?
I'm scared. Sincerly.
T.
